Photomontage

Photo retouching combined with 3D computer models rendered from the same perspective as the photo is known as photomontage. The image above, created by Studio Cruz for its longstanding client Santa Cruz Industries, shows a display designed by Chris Yonge in place in a 7-Eleven store. You can see the original image by rolling your cursor over the image; this photomontage involved not only modeling and placing the new fixture in position but also moving the original door location to allow the new fixture to be seen more easily. Modeling and rendering was done in 3D Studio Max; photo adjustment was done in PhotoShop.

The image below was created for Barry Swenson Builder, and shows a concept for the Bahia development in Santa Cruz as a computer rendering blended with a photograph of the site. Again, roll your cursor over the image to see the original photograph of the site.

Finally, an example of digital subtraction rather than digital addition. The photo below shows an orchard on Harris Ranch near Coalinga, California. In fact this part of the ranch has a 250kV power line running through it, the subject of an eminent domain case in which Studio Cruz was retained by Harris Ranch' attorneys. The studio digitally removed the towers in a series of photographs to show how the property appeared prior to construction of the line. Roll your cursor over the image to see the original photograph, as the site actually looks (photograph was not taken by Studio Cruz).
